Reno Week 2: the first screw-up

Week 2 was exciting as they started building the foundation.

Cinder-blocks were laid; rebars added; footings inspected; and all was well:

Until they finished and Tom and I began to suspect something was wrong. The wall looked a little high. The floor of the addition is supposed to be two steps lower than the main floor, and this was looking like it was barely one step.

Unfortunately, we weren’t sure there was a problem until we could get a good look at it in the full light of Saturday. Phone messages and emails were sent and we waited.

Saturday and Sunday involved looking at kitchen sinks and faucets, and floor tiles for the kitchen and sunroom.

Still we waited and wondered what was up, until the contractor called this morning and sheepishly admitted he had screwed up. A day to fix it, and then onward!

I knew mistakes would happen, I just didn’t expect them this early.
